Who can apply for permanent residency?
Any foreigner over 18 years old can start the permanent residency process in Paraguay. It is not necessary to have had temporary residency before, although in some cases it is advisable to start that way.
Required documents
To start the process you will need:
- Valid passport with at least 6 months of validity
- Apostilled criminal background certificate from the country of origin
- Apostilled birth certificate
- Proof of means of livelihood (can be an income affidavit, bank account or employment contract)
- ID photos
- Completed application form before the General Directorate of Migration
The step-by-step process
Foreign documents must be apostilled in accordance with the Hague Convention. If they are not in Spanish, they require official translation by a translator registered in Paraguay.
The complete file is submitted to the General Directorate of Migration in Asunción.
Once the file is accepted, an appointment is coordinated for biometric data capture and official photo.
The resolution period ranges from 30 to 60 business days. Once residency is approved, the Paraguayan identity card for foreigners is issued.
How much does it cost?
Official Migration fees are accessible. The total cost including management, apostille, translation and fees usually ranges between USD 800 and USD 1,500 depending on each case.
