How to open a company in Paraguay as a foreigner

Paraguay allows foreigners to form companies without being a resident. Learn about the available legal forms, the process steps, and the costs involved.

Paraguay is one of the countries in the region where a foreigner can most easily incorporate and operate a company, regardless of whether they have residency or not.

Most common legal forms

Sociedad Anónima (SA): most common for foreign capital companies, requires 2 shareholders and a board of directors.

Sociedad de Responsabilidad Limitada (SRL): more agile administration, ideal for medium-sized ventures, up to 25 partners.

Empresa Unipersonal: sole proprietorship, recommended only for low-risk activities.

Incorporation process

1. Name reservation at the Treasury Advocacy

2. Drafting and signing of bylaws before a notary

3. Registration at DNRPJ (5-10 business days)

4. RUC registration (taxpayer ID) at SET

5. Municipal operating permit

6. Bank account opening

Do I need to be a resident?

No. Non-resident foreigners can be shareholders and directors of Paraguayan companies. However, having a local representative for day-to-day procedures is recommended.

Estimated cost: USD 600 to USD 1,200 | Timeline: 15 to 30 business days
